This month, Facebook launched its new website for nonprofits. If you haven’t seen it yet, click here. Granted, Facebook should have done this years ago, but better late than never. It has received mixed reviews, but I think it’s worth your time to check out.
There are approximately 1.5 million nonprofits in the United States and over 10 million around the world. Since Facebook is the largest social media platform on the planet, they understood that they had to do something for these organizations. Many nonprofits use Facebook as a primary source for promotion and awareness building.
Many of the same techniques that drive for-profit companies and their marketing efforts can, and should, be applied to the nonprofit sector. And, with Facebook as the preeminent global social media platform to connect with others, raise awareness and make an impact for social good, it’s important that Facebook have a dedicated resource for nonprofits.
So, what do you find when checking out Facebook’s new nonprofit site?
Get Started: For those nonprofits that have yet to use Facebook, this provides you the basics for setting up your page. Additionally, it also gives nonprofit marketers knowledge about how to grow their friends and supporters.
Raise Awareness: At this point in time, there’s nothing like Facebook. Facebook is quickly approaching 1.6 billion users around the world. No other platform comes close. Period. On Facebook’s nonprofit website, it gives nonprofits tips and techniques to raise awareness and build community around your cause.
Activate Supporters: The new Facebook website helps inform organizations about how to create calls to action that will motivate supporters to help your nonprofit in some way. This can mean asking them to attend your events or help you spread the word, which in turn brings more people on board.
Raise Funds: In the nonprofit sector, we know most organizations operate with very small budgets. Fundraising is a real need. Facebook has an answer. It’s helping nonprofits understand how to raise money on Facebook. This resource helps organizations build their case and then extend their relationships with their donors by asking for support.
Success Stories: We all need a little motivation and inspiration sometimes. Through its site, Facebook is offering nonprofits stories of success so that others can be inspired. Perhaps you can find ideas and tips to use on your own Facebook page in the stories that are profiled here.
Tools & Products: Finally, Facebook offers nonprofits answers to questions they may have about pages, groups, events, insights and fundraising. In this section you’ll find everything you need to know about using Facebook to promote your cause.
